This WILL be spoiler territory from the WN, so some stuff might be a bit different from the LN(which this manga is based on), but

the world Naofumi is protecting does truly exist, but not in its current state. Originally, only humans existed as the sentient race there. Due to bullshit, another dimension basically merged with it and brought the demi-humans with them. Part of the reason why the waves of calamity are occurring to this world is due to that merging... the multiverse is basically trying to brute-force a solution by killing a lot of the beings there to bring "balance."
