Yeah, the neighbours were a bit unrealistic.

Though as you said, that doesn't make the mother less shitty, considering she never let the kid touch her or supported her in anything. Hey, at least it wasn't one of those horror stories where the mother brings back men that abuses the daughter with the mother watching and allowing it! ...Though that shouldn't have to be said as an "at least".

I don't really care if the mom has different guys. Long as they're both pleased with the arrangement. Women solidly married can be having a toxic life, women sleeping around can be perfectly happy; devil's in the details. But smacking her little kid's hand away--what, she can let any tom, harry and dick get physically close to her, but not her little daughter? That's bullshit.
