Tearmoon Empire - Vol. 1 Ch. 1

marie antoinette??? was this marie instead of mia??? aaaah but i'm a sucker for stories like this so i'll read!! i think i saw the raws somewhere but i don't remember at all lol, i just remember being curious. grow well, mia!

thank you for the translation!!!

The concept is similar to the Abandoned Empress, but I'm curious to see how will it be different from that story. This was a good start!

Should point out that one of Ptolemy princess during the triumph of Caesar was spared because the crowd was sympathetic. Marie represented the nobility who did nothing in the face of increasing poverty and instability around France. Her indulgence in extravagance and the affair of the diamond necklace, which she was not at fault but ultimately involved because of her reputation, led to revolution. Finally her husband intention to escape to Austria sealed their fate as traitors. Japanese shoujo has a tendency to glorify royalty, people in a position of power and wealth. It's almost as if events like Arab Spring or Hong Kong protest happened because the public got fed up with those in power, not only because of the public's "selfishness", being "short sighted" and "uneducated", "easily misled".

@Fuko Actually it’s “Let them eat brioche” but since most people outside of France don’t know what brioche is it’s been mistranslated into cake. 🤨 (btw brioche is Yummy bread made with butter and eggs, kind of like a un-flakey croissant. It was considered a luxury compared to basic bread made of only wheat, water, yeast, and a small amount of salt.)
Still, it’s nice to see an honest reincarnation where instead of desiring to change the world or have a cheat, does what most people would do, try for personal survival.

@Mojo @Fuko
What most people don't know, is that Marie Antoniette never actually said those words, those were mis-attributed to her during the times pre-revolution; if anything, she did whatever she could (albeit little) to curb the crisis.

Problem was that her husband was an incompetent, the american revolution ended up working against France and that the propaganda machine was functioning actively against her, so she ended up being the scapegoat and the figurehead for everything wrong with France at the time.

So yeah, poor girl.

I do love a good redemption story where the " villainess" actually acts like a villainess. I think this may be my first time seeing a female protagonist with short hair in a reincarnation manga. Well, modern ones anyway.

Well....avoiding the guillotine would need to include those other problems.

@VladDracul2
I always felt that those words, whether true or not meant “if they don’t have bread just give them the cakes we have then.”

Her only goal is to avoid excecution! Will Mia do those other things in the mean time? Perhaps.

Maybe she should hide that bloodied and tattered diary of hers lol. Maids clean the room right? She leaves it out just like that? If i was a maid and saw that, I wouldnt just leave it be. Id at least mention it to someone geez

@VladDracul2 Thanks for that. All this time I believed she was an incompetent royal. Seems to be the opposite. Poor lady.
