Why is he saying "this is bad", when he has a weak monster in front and the unknown behind them appear to neither be chasing nor filling the gorge with magical attacks? Just continue, kill or tame the earth dragon depending on the mood, and then be careful to see if the unknown stayed behind or circumvented the gorge to cut them off. If the latter, it might be better to dig through the mountain than engage it.
