@Willie29 well, the first Japanese dish he ate was spicy, then the next thing he ate was sour. He's a kid, so his tastes aren't really that inclined to these two types of taste, so it must be natural to think it's bad. When I was 13yo I also didn't like spicy and sour foods.

@RandomDoge So much this. There are loads of things I hated as a kid all the way up till high school, but now I can tolerate them easily or just straight up love. Hard for me to think of which foods specifically because I've long since overwritten what I hated to be something I liked instead, but our taste buds constantly change throughout our lives.

_{I still hate peas, though. Fuck peas. Corn too, but I can at least tolerate corn far better than that mushy, puke inducing vegetable. Yuck!}

It depends on the preparation method. Mostly salty or sour but some manufacturers make sweet variations by adding sugars and stuff. Still if you like umeboshi's taste, you can eat it plain without rice like she did lol!
