regarding how strong his scales are (minor spoilers related to the next few arcs):

he actually does end up cursing someone after this arc, because she stays with him too long. however it's not a strong curse and takes several days of being in close proximity to even start to have a visible effect (literally riding him/in his mouth) to get it and it weakens the further away you are from him hell even small/minor curse resistance is enough to not be affected by it all it seems.
