I wouldn't really say the original person must's been cancer just because the slime is. like you said, two people cannot have the same memories. in other words, the slime is also only a fraction of the original person. the dragon only has a vague feeling yet has kinship with humans, yet the slime does not despite very clearly remembering his origins. the dragon must've gotten the conscience where the slime did not. chances are the slime would not have been as much of an asshole if he was a whole person, but then again we'll never really know lol

This is just my interpretation of the manga´s version because I don't remember the novel one that well...
But from the look of things, the slime did not steal the voice of god skill, but stole another skill instead and got the voice of god skill "for free" thanks to also stealing the memories of the MC.
The skill that was stolen was a skill we don´t know about that supposedly allows you to become the demon king or whatever...
This was explained back in chapter 17 and isn't really a spoiler.

Personally, I would like to think that the slime is an asshole because its life before it got the skill, and not because of the MC´s memories. ( it was bullied by its own "parent" )
And also, just like ridesdragons said, its also possible that its because he has only some memories from the MC.
But its completely possible that the MC was an asshole himself and he became a better person because he lost his memories.
We probably will never know for sure unless the slime is revived somehow and the MC steals his memories back...
