@Uooper, with a vast historic of earthquakes, tsunamis and other natural disasters plus the heavy cultural influence of Buddhism, I really doubt any individual or society would love to be under an almighty supernatural entity's whim. No one would love to have a multimillionaire screw over with their lives just for unjustified amusement as well.
The concepts sold and ingrained in manga that you find so annoying are "bringing down what is supposedly untouchable" and "every religious sect or big organization unquestioningly holds political power" and both are plot devices that have every right to be used considering humanity tragedies induced/caused by religion (as some sort of reminder to avoid it or not repeat it again, if you exaggerate the interpretation).
So... Welp, you are searching for entertainment material in the wrong place. Just accept it and move on (or not, I'm not your mother).
@Uooper Making it sound like religion hasn't done bad things IRL. Terrorism, crusades, witch trials, and many other massacres made in the name of religion.
Man... this chapter really hit a string... even though it's a side chapter it's perfect! It couldn't get more relevant and philosophical than this while adding to the story, characters and the world! This manga really is one of top favs for this type of creative writing, not to mention the excellent art style that accompanies it
@Debrandir
Of course they have the right to write whatever they want, but no tragedies are caused by religion. All those tragedies are caused by people. The authors could actually show us how religion is used to corrupt and influence the characters, but instead we just told "religion is bad". The religious characters are shown as evil or dumb and mindless without any good reason. It's stupid and it's bad writing too.
@Uooper
According to the Encyclopedia of Wars, out of all 1,763 known/recorded historical conflicts, 123 had religion as their primary cause. So to say that "no tragedies are caused by religion" is blatantly wrong. Most wars are caused by greed, nationalism, ethnicity, etc., none of which are people, funnily enough. Also, it's not that they're just saying that "religion is bad" or making it so that religious characters in manga look evil or dumb, it's to show that evil people use religion to justify all sorts of evil acts. As for "showing how religion is used to corrupt and influence the characters", this manga doesn't really have that. If you want that, look elsewhere. Honestly, if you want to shit on something but don’t want to get made a fool of, at least get your facts straight.
This is a chapter for the soldiers with good moral having a terrible fate serving a terrible royal family and corrupted faith leader that got slaughtered in the battlefield.
Disappointing how good people can die for others that toss away their responsibility as a leader and spiritual symbol that lining their own pockets.
Its hard to get the right person on important position
Quoted from Ch66.
Wow. What a great guy. He didn't follow the church's teachings, nor his country's. He only cared for his family, and yet he stayed true to his feelings to the very end. He didn't believe in a God. That is, until Rimuru came. Chills.
