Although i understand what are you saying, but i still think that it's noly appliable to our modern world.
Just try to imagine - world of sword of magic, there exists mighty creatures above all else - the dragons. Pretty much, just mentioning that name brings "awe of power" and "fear of disaster". Just a single one can turn entire city to ash.
And so... mighty human warrior was strong enough to bring it down. Is it embarassing?
I mean - he himself can be embarassed about other calling him "dragon slayer" with awe. It's normal.
MC can be smirking at him, calling it embarassing. It's normal, but ONLY because it was embarassing in his previous world.
But those two noble friends smirking together with MC is absolutely impossible, and can't be explained in any way. My point was about that scene in particular. There autor definitely screwed up.
