Okay, so it's been a while since highschool, but the timetable for those exams seem insane!

50 minutes per exam, only 10 minutes of rest in between and all of those crammed into one morning?!

Is this common for any (Japanse) highschool?

That's an awfully "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" view. Sure, maybe they're just horny workaholics who are - like their daughter - too honest to rise up in any business environment. That's an old *style* of home but by no means a rundown shack. Given the cost of housing in Japan they're not doing so terribly.
It's also possible they were on track to have no trouble taking care of so many kids, but a sudden company closure or the like flipped their lives around, but given how much she hates school it's possible someone saw an opportunity to "have to" take care of a kid that COULD just stay home and sleep on her own.
I've known plenty of families with a lot more money where the parents can't even be bothered to take care of the one or two kids they do have; the kids do NOT end up well-adjusted let alone nice like her.

That triangle makes me uncomfortable. The √5 and 3 should be swapped because it's a rectangular triangle. (edit: I was wrong about this)
And I'm the opposite of Samejima, the worst part of math for me is that you have to memorize so much stuff for it.

@Ovdose No, the tirangle is correct. 2 squared (4) plus root 5 squared (5) equals 3 squared (9). A^2 + B^2 = C^2, C is always the hypotenuse.

I think she wants to be a nurse when she grows up (it was implied in chapter 1 with the career surveys, and she was talking with the school nurse in another chapter). She needs good grades for that. Of course, if people are terrified of her, she might give them heart attacks, but that's beside the point.I
