The story seems unrealistic at first, but each main characters have a real emotion and struggle of their own that tied them up and make the story seems realistic and make you immersed in it. You're gonna feel annoyed by some of the character (especially the father!) & i think it shows you how good Yamamoto Naoki-sensei craft his story.

You are feeding, clothing, raising and rearing a girl for at least 18 years solely so she can go and get ravaged by another man.
