That’s a pretty nice teacher when he’s not completely useless at stopping bullying. And again, the other girl/ “rival” needs to learn to just keep her mouth shut. @pip25 Not really. I mean I don’t live in Japan, but judging from this same manga the kids are expected by the school to walk from their house everyday. Plus kids generally spend a lot more time walking around. I can’t say for sure what country you’re from, but assuming it’s the U.S. we just have a whole different idea and experience with how to treat our youth in school. Not to mention our country is built far too much around cars making it a lot more difficult for people (especially kids) to just walk around. Plus with all that’s been going on and we’ve adopted a much more cautious viewpoints (school shootings; kidnapping; etc). Again I don’t live in Japan, so don’t know about the actual public safety there, but at the very least in this manga it seems like nothing bad ever happens. Not to mention if someone really dangerous is prowling the streets the average adult is just as vulnerable as a child, and regardless statistically we’re all more likely to be harmed by family members and people we know, than a random stranger. Most people aren’t going to break the law and social norms. Honestly, I say we generally just baby and are too controlling when it comes to kids (as if they can’t handle freedom or making decisions). They buddied up (which is the safest thing an adult or child can do when walking around), had a phone, knew the right numbers, and were given money and told where everyone else would be. They aren’t young enough to be complete idiots, have basic common sense, and have been walking around by themselves for years now. No reason not to, and the other alternatives would have been to leave them in the bus (so much worse), stay with them and let the rest of the kids do whatever, or freeze the whole trip because someone got a little carsick. Also I thought they were in middle school? Anyway they have to at least be in 5th or 6th grade.

In chapter 30 it was stated that they're in a new semester, so we if we considered then as 1st years before chapter 30, then now they're in their 2nd year (I don't really know which year of elementary school they are from, so I'm using the middle school trope for reference), so this teacher is certainly their new homeroom teacher
