@LuminousAzael Mary believes her family has accumulate to much power and sway in the kingdom, to the point where their authority threatens even the Royal Family and her fear is other families will try to abused this to their own advantage. And even if she were to become the head, it wouldn't be enough to avert the potential crisis so she views the best authority is to go for the "ruin ending" because that would restore the power balance.

Of course she's also reluctant/oblivious to the fact that Alicia and Patrick both adore her and Addie straight up doesn't want to see her getting put through exile even though she keeps swearing that she can't make the best out of it.
