@TrapCard113 Go free? What are you talking about? They could be captured and executed publicly to serve as a warning to the people that crime does not pay. Or they could be sent to the mines, where they would live for a few years and produce some good in the form of salt, coal, or ore, before they die in an accident or because the dust kills their lungs weakened by malnutrition. However, such a thing often isn't modelled in games. Although in some games you do see slaves working in mines, but it's not often depicted how the slaves got there. There are exceptions, though, like in Skyrim, where the player character is thrown into a silver mine as a criminal punishment.
