You are unwittingly shifting between both sides of the breach, sometimes finding yourself a few days in the future, sometimes a few days in the past, relatively. @kurohanani Two ways he could know about it. One, he learned the magic system of the game inside and out to better understand it(as it said, there was a spell creation system...so understanding how magic worked in the game's lore would help him there). Two, same way he can cast spells and swordfight at such a high level...the knowledge was imparted to him as part of the skill. It's not really that hard to think of.

In other words, that book is a tool that naturally weeds out people until all we're left with are talented individuals that can brute force magic with their large amounts of mana or are clever enough to make a faulty spell work...good, get rid of the weaklings.

I'd do the same thing and just give the folks who passed the Revised Version.
