The Duchess' 50 Tea Recipes - Ch. 57

@hanfeizi triple sweet is probably the most crowded of tea shops, especially since that's all the nobles talk about. They don't talk about the others or other good places because the topic revolves around chloe. You cant blame them for not wanting to wait hours just for a cup of tea.

@Eksentrysyti Normally I’d agree, but in this case, tea already had a rocky reputation, and it’s only because of Chloe’s hard work that it got popular at all. At the moment, tea is just a fad; it’s not quite a part of the culture yet, so it doesn’t seem all too unusual to me for a person to write off the product as a whole.

I'm laughing so hard at Chloe going mob boss on this tea seller selling garbage tea that'll affect her business. It's like:

Chloe: "You come into my territory and sell this TRASH. Y'know how this makes MY business look!"
Tea Seller: "I'm so sorry, I-I didn't mean to-"
Chloe: "I don't need your apologies, I need you to disappear. BOYS! Show this scum what it means to disrespect the tea."
*While being dragged away* Tea Seller: "NO PLEASE SPARE ME, GIVE ME A SECOND CHANCE!"

Ppl trying to cash in on her game with fakes. Smh.

Thank you for the update 💗

Roses are red, Violet's are blue,
You sold Chloe fake tea leaves,
Omae wa mou shindeiru.

@mojo: Not really. People deserve to get sick IF they are dumb enough to buy food from questionable sources. That's why we have brand names, Royal Warrant, and that's why shops often put "est. in 19XX" to show that they are not a fly-by-night operations selling dubious quality goods. That's also why reputation is important as a merchant. You don't want to build a reputation for selling bad stuffs.

Of course in pre-modern era you don't have regulations, and people often cheat. And that's why they had guilds with their strict membership system, because they didn't want fly-by-night operators/swindlers coming in (see https://www.jstor.org/stable/26654178?seq=1#metadata_info_tab_contents). Pure Food and Drugs Act came into being AFTER industrialization, with rapid urbanization, making it difficult for people to find out what is in their food.

So in the case of that merchant, if those nobles knew that they got sick from drinking something they bought from the store, the first thing they should do was to either call the guild or the police/imperial guard/whatever security system in that Isekai world.

Moreover, as you mentioned, these nobles "wish to follow the trends of society" meaning that they have pride to maintain. And it is doubtful that they can maintain their pride by telling people that they got their tea not from the trendsetting store that has a Royal Warrant, but from "a middle class looking store."

@LegendX: the other merchant's store is not a café, meaning that they were buying raw tea, not a cup of tea.

@hanfeizi wether its a cup of tea or an entire box, the fact that they have to wait forever to get good ones from triple sweet remains. Plus, not everyone likes tea. Of course, they shouldn't come to that conclusion based on one thing, they don't know any better. Tea might be the topic but as we saw, the nobles dont care if you drink it or not, they just want to talk about it and heck, if someone doesn't like it even after going to triple sweet, they'll just keep talking about tea, wether they drink it or not. You're not going to be kicked out of high society for not liking something that used to be discriminated upon, let alone something like tea.

I'm honestly glad this novel didn't forget its origin even after 50 chapters. It's about tea as it should be

@LegendX: I really wonder how crowded the store is that they were forced to buy their tea from someone who couldn't even know where he got the tea.

And you sound like someone who was too lazy to wait for hours queueing for Ariana Grande's tickets and decided to queue for Nickelback instead because they both pop singers.

Yeah, you show him, girl! Lol. Love her so much! Thank you for this update!
