She's not saving the Duke per say. She's saving the people who live in the dukedom. And in consequence she's saving the Duke. I wonder what the sacrifice is that her Uncle is not wanting her to do it.

ps. This uncle is her maternal uncle and the one at the start was a balding man I'm assuming her paternal uncle
