He refused to call for her, likely even when the visitor 'suggest' she be present (like, say, "since your lordship is busy here, how about letting your wife handle the management?" "NO, OMAR GUD I TRUST OMAR")

So now she's taking whatever plan B is, given the 'with everyone else', she's probably going to make some kind of announcement at the dinner.
