I think the japanese word for doctor is sensei is it? Maybe translating it to doctor is a bit weird. Then again there is no english word for sensei

@Mitsu13 Sensei is the word for teacher, but calling someone 'X sensei' is a term of respect for learned or accomplished individuals, analagous to how a Ph.D holder can be referred to as "Doctor X" without being a physician in English.
 
@ThisIsNoZaku I know how in Japan sensei can be use for teacher and doctor but I don't know doctor can be use for Phd holder in English. Thanks for the info
 
The term doctor is used for anyone with doctoral training (which includes PhD, EdD, MD, among others in the USA). This is why people tend to use the term "physician" to refer to medical doctors at some academic medical centers where there may be a lot of PhDs as well as MDs.
