The Duke of Death and His Black Maid - Vol. 8 Ch. 102 - Younger and Older Brother

I know hes running but part of me thinks hes really running to save the Witches sicne you know

So, does the mother like the Duke or not? They made her evil earlier for some reason.

@Pen3 I don't think she cares for him one bit, I just think she views him in terms of a sunk cost fallacy; since he was the heir to the family titles, they probably spent a lot of time, effort, and money on his upbringing to ensure he would be a proper Duke when he inherited the title, so writing him off would waste all of that. Walter, aside from growing up knowing that he was the spare, probably also didn't have those advantages, so they don't want to make him the heir, because they then get, in their eyes, a subpar heir to the family titles. The mother is probably also one of those who believes that the nobility shouldn't even know the names of commoners, much less fall in love with one, which is why she's so against the Duke being together with Alice.

All that's just a guess, though, since we haven't really seen enough of her to really get a good feel of her personality, but it's what makes sense to me from what we have seen.

@Vincentius Didn't she fire all the staff who talked ill of the Duke? And considering the manga, I wouldn't be surprised if she was just a big ole tsundere. The whole family seems to be tsundere at that, including Walter. our Duke would have been one too had Alice not beat it out of him long ago.

@Kisato Ah, right, I'd forgotten about that. Given the nature of the series, her being a tsundere wouldn't surprise me, but it also wouldn't surprise me if the author threw a curveball and made it so that she genuinely didn't like the Duke. It'd be very easy to explain her firing those servants to be as simple as not wanting people around that would badmouth her family; not giving their ducal title the respect it deserves and all that.

i thought people would comment "ntr" >,> im not at all disappointed

I say stand your ground. It's not like they will touch you and if they do, they get to take a dirt nap.
