The Earl's Daughter Was Suddenly Employed as the Crown Prince's Fiancée - Vol. 2 Ch. 8

@redbeanbunny From what i saw of the raws it get's worse next chapter, though it seems likely that something will change in the chapter after that.

Specifically(spoiler for next chapter raws)
She seems to be trying to get him to push her away, probably because she can't handle being around him anymore, even to the point that i think she confesses though not sure but in a way she realizes probably reminds him of "the incident", and runs away while having a breakdown, the final panel is someone meeting him, and end scene, not much said or anything.

People are saying the author is taking this seriously, but the whole repressed memory part strikes me as remarkably flippant. In my personal experience, childhood trauma is usually the sort of thing that people never forget, no matter how much they want to. And the science behind dissociative amnesia is incredibly controversial. See The Formation of False Memories, Loftus, E.F.; Pickrell JE (1995)

This chapter's explanation thoroughly confused me. So because of his childhood trauma, he's shunned women his whole life (which extremely understandable considering what he went through) but how on earth does him avoiding women actually lead to all the extreme sickness symptoms that happen to the women nearby him? I mean, if by "shun" you mean he gave off this overwhelming "come near me and die" type of pressurized aura which might cause something like that, then it's somewhat understandable. But honestly, the magic theory just really sounds more logical. I mean, it truly seems impossible for physical sickness type of symptoms to constantly keep appearing because he's simply shunning women with his possible aura. I mean I can understand if the Queen and her handmaids were faking it for years but it doesn't explain why or how the other women were also sick around him. Ugh. . . I just don't get the logistic of this condition unless it really is magic causing it. ¬_¬

Also as a warning:
I'm pretty sure after reading the raws that the "magic" woman Frieda, or whatever her name is, that they're looking for shows up right at the very end of that chapter. I recognize her back dress piece so I'm pretty sure it's her.

This took a weird left turn for me. This has always been a very light, comedic manga so for it to suddenly and dramatically try to bring in real life issues was weird.

Think I’m going to drop this one until it completes or gets past this weird arc.

@icekatze We’re kinda working with a low bar here. Most of the time, sexual assault is just a tool for shock value or a threat for the "dashing male lead" to rescue the "damsel" from. The fact that, not only is it portrayed as the horrible thing it is, but also shows that boys can be victims and women can be assailants and pedophiles already puts it miles above other portrayals.

@AnonDePlume
I suppose from that point of view I can see what you mean. Still can't help but feel a little bit frustrated that most of the stuff that makes coping with trauma feel real was replaced with fantasy, I guess. 😔

I dunno if anyone else noticed this, but does this mean that he sees his own mother as a woman? She gets affected by the curse too. Kiiinda creepy 😝

@Drazirach
It could be purely a visual thing. The person who assaulted him was a voluptuous older woman with blonde hair, his mother quite easily fits that description.

Did the fluffy manga just fucking drop child sexual assault on us out of fucking nowhere? What the actual fuck...

OH GODDAMMIT. He said it in the absolutely worst way.

...Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that twist. It's...interesting.

Then, could the curse be his subconscious magic and she's just immune to magic? This kingdom is supposed to be low on magic in general though. Hmm.

JESus FUCKIGN CHRIST. a little more foreshadowing pLEASE. that dropped like a fucking bomb.

i mean i guess it bombarded us the way it did the FL, but that was insane.

Theory time:

I'm thinking that someone, maybe our villainess, approached the prince to plant some sort of attraction charm, but it didn't work (maybe his revulsion caused him to resist/not take) so they erased his memories (which is why he forgot something so traumatic) and cursed him instead with intent of approaching him later. Being with Lynette is not only eroding the repulsion spell, but also the spell that hid his memories, which is why we had this sudden recall now. Lynette still has her nullification, which is why the curse doesn't affect her, and the prince is not the origin, which is why his perception of her doesn't matter, and the "not a woman" comment is the typical shoujo, drama, red herring thing.

Edit: Lady Friede (unlike ALL the other women in the series) has shiny, screentoned lips like our r*pist.
