Honestly, kids do wander off and go missing and die in unfortunate places sometimes. I'm not sure anything in the initial descriptions would strike me as horrifically suspicious, just awful and tragic. :/

(I guess not finding the bodies that many times in a row would be suspicious, though, to be fair. Ugh.)
