for people who have read the light novel

A. does anything happen with the dead hero? or is her sole purpose in the story just to provide the initial motivation for him or something? does he ever have to reckon with the fact that the hero probably would have hated what he's doing?

B. is all his opposition going to be cartoonishly evil so the protag can still be considered "the good guy"? (I mean he just slaughtered an entire city for the crime of being dumb peasants who have been used by the king's own selfish motives, where realistically, there would be people who never gave a fuck or supported the hero and was against the execution)



or I'm thinking too hard and this is a "turn off your brain" sort of read?

I don't know about the whole town but at least a non insignificant part not only was there to watch the execution in the beginning but they even supported it, so while I won't say the MC is a good guy it's not like what he did was completely unjustified. Also, as far as I remember the MC never considered himself just, more like a necessary evil and I don't think the story tries to portray him as good.

uhhhh dude literally murdered children, like people who weren't even alive at the time when the execution happened 10 years ago or were literally toddlers who couldn't form opinions.


even if we tossed that aside, the notion that literally everybody agreed with it is dumb and there's no way you can give the same responsibility to peasants that hold no power and probably just went along because the king said it

I don't think the story tries to portray him as good.

which is why I'm asking how the author portrays its "villains", will they always be slightly more evil than the MC?


edit: and as I see it, depicting him as a "necessary" evil is just another way of saying that he's the good guy
