Why would you get into a pissing contest with your battle-trained son? It's almost like the author writes MC into these scenarios just so she can be put down by a main male character. I'd expect a mother in her 30s who's experienced death to be a little more mature.

Cousins married each other all the time in medieval Europe. Generally, they wouldn't marry the exact same family generations in a row but Royal Europe was very VERY incestuous @astraphella
