@doneprone Stand up to the what? The guy that can have his entire clan executed and cause more death than one eunuch?
@RamenRider If he does bad things for his clan then he's no different than Dowun, he would just be Dowun in a different flavor. Even worse Baek is less capable politically and one swordsman can't stand against an army. The reason I liked Baek was because he was suppose to be just and righteous.

@doneprone I don't know how that would make him no different than Dowun. Dowun's actions were motivated by a sense of duty towards his family, and perhaps a side of personal gain. Baek is potentially accepting or refusing an order from his master who can have him executed, and his family disgraced (if not worse) at any time. Essentially, putting him up against a corner. And like you said, he's less politically capable of enacting his personal justice and values on a grander scale.

The prince is despicable but I'm not really surprised. If you think about how royals often were in history and mix in political tension, personal ambition, and dubious loyalty of the people nearby, it'd be more odd if he was kind and gentle. Though it's a terrible command, I get the reasoning behind it. He doesn't just want a good a sword, he wants a sword that unquestioningly obeys him. If he can't obey a direct order to strike down whoever the prince sees fit, he won't be of much use in the prince's ruthless quest to kingship which would likely involve a number of bodies and shady dealings.
