well there were many methods to restore honor if the woman got ahold of their assailant and didnt mind getting bloody/ would dare to.

Precisely because its a thing that happens. The further away from a technological society one gets, the more common it is. The further away from a moral society one gets, the more common it is. Pre-industrial monarchies are about as far away from a moral, technological society as it's possible to get without falling back to the stoneage.

Literarily speaking it's a good plot device to showcase just how heinous the baddies are or at least, to show how moral the goodies are through their intolerance of rapists.

It still amazes me that people don't realize that 90% of manga is not intended for children. Why would you expect a YA/adult story to not address adult issues?
