Tbh, I know women in that era don't hold much power and her father IS allowed to have concubines, it honestly still hurts seeing him cheating on a good (but a bit naive) woman like her mother and him favoring on his other child

@Meo He does have something to hide at this point, though. She wasn't a wife yet, she wasn't a concubine either, but he knocked her up anyway. There was a legal method, but he just wanted to cheat I'd imagine. Sounds pretty bad for the optics surrounding some sort of official. Sneaky, dishonest, lecherous. Not exactly the best reputation to develop.
