Can any one please explain the difference between a western vampire and an eastern one? I thought eastern vampires hopped around instead of walking and suck chi or souls or life force or something instead of blood. Am I mistaken?

What I mean is, the eastern vampires in this story seem very human like, not at all like the Eastern vampires I know.

I guess that's a clean way to get around the usual problem, of wanting your shoujo protagonist to be thought of as "ugly," but not being willing to take the "risk" of actually drawing anyone as such. (As if somehow we're only capable of empathizing with pretty people. As if! But I digress.)

I can't speak as to the mythology any more than you can, but in cases like this it's good to remember everyone takes whatever liberties they want with supernatural creatures in fiction.
And grey hopping zombies, don't as easily make for nice, photogenic romance partners. (Though I suppose it'd have been thematically appropriate in a manhua that already deals with issues of beauty and ugliness, in theory. But I think this is going to be a bit more vapid than that).

@Mojo Well. Im a year late with this. First of all, the vampires in this story are western vampires with easterner's brains
Basically, western vampires are the original while eastern vampires (jiangshi) are an "imported concept crossed with zombies". While vampires are also kind of "undead", they are also not quite "dead" -dead. Those that get their blood sucked become vampires more like an infectious transformation disease.
On the other hand the Qi/lifeforce sucking jiangshi (doesn't suck souls) are effectively dead and move through instinct more like Resident Evil zombies. The reason they hop with their hands up is because of rigor mortis "freezing their limbs". Basically, they can't bend their limbs so they resort to hopping with their hands up (for balance). In other words, they are more zombies less vampires.
Speaking of which, don't look at Qiqi from Genshin Impact for reference. The only thing jiangshi about her is her outfit.
