@XL We've seen the prejudice she receives from the other troops. The author has established that most of them see her as below them or someone from the opposition army who could still betray them. It still makes sense therefore for her to be doing gruntwork. I imagine the author knows what they're doing so calling them an idiot is just rude.

If promotion is handled anything like our world, it's up to her immediate superiors. Aside from the one guy we've seen who seems to have gotten used to her, it wouldn't surprise me if the guys above her rank aren't as accommodating. Why does the kid get promoted? Nepotism, the end.

I'd bet, the Korean readers said the same things about the battle scenes as we are, that the author just gave up on drawing them. It's for the best, really... although it would've been nice if Team-Iyak drew the bridge instead of 1 background guy shouldering a log while the king and 2 officers look on at said un-pictured bridge.
