Emperor might be letting the king bait him so he (the emperor) can catch him in the act of... betrayal hahhaa which would give the emperor a reason to kill the king (rather than rejecting that banquet and leaving a backstabbing corrupt guy alive). And in the off chamce the emperor did not suspect anything, then i’m hoping his retainers would warm him as well
