Mmmm seems like a different fantasy series I've read. Most magic calls on nature around you, but 'dark' magic in particular causes infliction upon the person who casts it. The MC in that universe was using someone else to cast spells for him since he obviously didn't want boils and plague all over his skin. Guess it could be the same, it is necromancy after all.

It's more common in Western Media. Kim Possible, for an example, but Western Cartoons do it more than Eastern for some reason. I don't know if there's a cultural thing behind it, but it's just an observation

This is just a guess but based on principals of dark magic and necromancy from other sources I'd say that her powers can only go so far or do so much without physical reagents like blood and corpses. Hence, her arms are covered with bleeding wounds causing her to feel faint from anemia due to needing her blood for various spells. Could be a reagent to allow her to summon and/or command the undead, or an offering to re-energize the undead to keep them from collapsing or falling apart once the animating energy ran out. In any case she's been using too much blood and injuring herself too much to try to appeal to him. Only good thing is used own blood rather than murdering someone to use theirs.
