The Perks of Working in the Black Magic Industry - Vol. 4 Ch. 19 - The Mid-Career Recruited Alligator-Person Senpai

Oh hey Koolio is actually capable of maturely informing the reader about how the manga critiques cultural/business issues in Japan instead of just sperging about completely unrelated racism or whatever. Now if he'd just knock it off with the meme translations he'd stop being such a pain in the ass.

Quite nice that Koolio is no longer going full Chalkolm X and instead scratiching his itch with what is an honestly interesting commentary

Just realised that doggo boss is raping all her employees akin to Weinstein
Every one has to literally fuck it's way into the industry

@Koolio They told him change it or fuck off, he decided to fuck off rather than change it
How's that being a snowflake?

Thanks for the chapter and insights Koolio, good one all around. Would be wild to have a socially prevailing neutral pronoun in English, and it sounds like a really significant shift in Japanese. Always amazing to be reminded of just how alive language is, and how social climate can serve a similar role to the environmental pressures found in biological evolution.

@Kintak
It wasn't random. That kind of talk was happening around them and he wanted to shut it down instead of laughing it off like a decent person.

This might surprise you but white nationalist have created a subculture around manga and anime and find their way into various communities. If they say anything it's a joke. If you take a stand you're being political.

Here's an interesting video analysis on the situation:

>unironic commie tripe video
>everyone I don’t like is a Nazi reeee!

Stop.
I know this may be hard for you to grasp, but there’s not a lot of white nationalists in Japan.

@metas
Commie!!!?
Everyone I don't like is a Nazi XD.

Why are you even bringing up Japan when we're talking about a translator retaliating to hateful messages he's seen?

No substantive criticism on the content of his argument, just the fact that he said it. When he makes an apolitical statement like in this endcard tho, crickets... I wonder what the problem actually was... But yeah I don't like getting into arguments on the internet either. Deuces.

Yeah. In spite of the author legit trying to challenge Japanese workplace norms, they’re also ignoring stuff like this. You could argue that Doggo’s “training” is optional, though, so who knows at this point.

Also, I’m surprised gendered pronouns have such weight in Japan. Like, it would make more sense for Samson if she was tomboyish or identifying as male, but here she’s just a girl that talks like a guy.

I fucking knew it.
His dad is the goddamn Maou or something...

Also... BEWBS!

@xyzzy
Keep in mind the different forms of "I" are also related to the level of formality/respect between the speakers, the fact that using the female forms of "I" is more formal/humble while the male forms are more informal/authoritative has to do with how men and women don't necessarily fit the same way within the social hierarchy, and that's a whole other can of worms.

For a western equivalent think of women in the workplace who favor pants over skirts or don't wear heels (japan's recently had some issues regarding this)

Interesting meaning behind the pronouns. It’s also time for the harem to meet the mc’s parents huh
