It takes no effort to be an "activist" nowadays, especially in first-world countries. All you need to do is have a Twitter account. That's it.

Mori's indefensible fuckup was that he said "women should have their speaking time limited because someone told him they talk too much and have trouble finishing." Not appropriate given the time and place of the interview, but it also raises the question who told him that to begin with. Now, if he just said "women talk too much" in a more casual setting, it might not have been bad. Some media outlets now simply report it as "resigns for saying women talk too much aka sexist remark" which sounds lacking in context and even more stupid than before. Also, we might be tip-toeing on being thought-policing with this...

Now activists want to have a woman in charge to prove the committee is not sexist. So now we're having a reverse sexism situation, close to affirmative action. Next, put a black woman in to prove they aren't racist. And the trip toward the PC abyss begins. Just choose someone with experience, regardless of male or female. Can't be hard to just look at the damn resume.

Can someone explain to me why I'm suddenly seeing the words Anglo, Anglosphere, Angloid, and other derivatives thrown around everywhere on the web now in regards to anything involving white people, the UK, America and Europe?

From cursory searches on Google and Duckduckgo, I'm gathering that its slurs used by Latinos who are angry that Spanish isn't the dominant language spoken in the US,

I thought Anglo was just a formal term referring to white people. I took a class about Chicanos and the word Anglo was used quite often, but never in a derogative way. Which idiots used that as a slur?

There's your problem. Some Latinos really don't like white people because of anti-immigration (despite the fact that most Latinos living in the US are anti-immigration...) in the US and apparently Whites were all responsible for all of their problems throughout history.

Not really, like every other group, whites aren't some giant hegemony all from the same 1x1 plot of land.

You have Germans, Swedes, Spaniards, and French to name a few.

Anglo is derived from the Anglo-Saxon people, which would mainly be the working class whites of Northern England.
They only really exist nowadays in DNA, like Neanderthal DNA does.
Most British people are Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and Anglo-Saxon mutts. Very few have above 50% Anglo-Saxon DNA.
Anglo-Saxons are a hybrid of the ancient Saxons (French and Roman settlers of England) and the extinct Aboriginal English (Anglos).
The ancient Anglos were a weird people. Look 'em up. Its entertaining, to put it one way.

I've seen Latino, Black, and Asian SJW-types use it in really derogatory manners on lowbrow literature like opinion pieces.
Wikipedia uses it in a neutral term but it really comes off as...odd.
Looking it up further, its used as a sort of discriminatory distinction between Hispanic-Whites and non-Hispanic Whites.
I understand the need for distinction but going about it this way is just...

I really only asked because I have never seen the phrase Anglo-Saxon used outside of historical context until like three years ago when woke nonsense went into overdrive.

No, they're an actual group of people, granted they are basically extinct at this point.
All I'm gathering from what I keep seeing is that this is just something that Latinos and social activists have been successfully forcing in their attempt to soft-categorize whites into a singular group.

A lot of this stuff just seems to be divide and conquer and smear for a collective target nonsense.
Reminds me of the quadroon/octoroon stuff but in a different manner and for a completely different reason.

Not to mention there's different types of English culture.
English English (England) culture.
And then you have English speaking countries with unique cultures, Canada, Australia, England, The US and others I can't be bothered to remember on the spot.

The thing is that the people who use the term Anglo never specify what they're talking about.

anglo is shortform of anglosaxon which refers to the english and the cultures that came from it such as americans, non-french canadians, new zealand-ers(?), and Australians. apparently it can also be used for south africans though i havent seen it used that way myself. it isnt an insult its just a more specific form of white, like instead of calling somone a black person you call them jamaican or liberian
