I think he is a classic example of having been in a high place too long that the power corrupted his mentality.
Justice isn't as important as he just wants personal revenge. Let the bandits go and have them kill more innocents, hurrah. Such lack of consideration despite having been someone in power who should have cared for the people more. Sure, it's frustrating to be treated this way, but he himself calls the original owner useless and looks down on the original owner. How's he different from how everyone else around is reacting? He's a douche indeed.

wow... the MC is nothing more then a pure selfcentered asshole, can someone remind me of why we are supposed to root for him?
he can drown 25 people simultaniously with a snap of his fingers as a 3 circle mage, and yet he could do nothing to save some hostages but to drink poison as 8 circle mage...
why am i supposed to fell pitty toward him or whatever when it's all his own stupidity's fault?
and asking that dude what kind of training he has done to lose against someone like the MC is a perfectly valid question, magic boosting or not, he has, as far as the story has us believe, never even held a sword in his life, it should have been a simple victory with the MC on the losing side.
