I thought the guards would have at least informed the two mages that their kidnapping was part of the plan and they should play their roles as hapless victims...
They are looking for proof of that rotten kingdom involvement, so they can't move too soon, but knowing the normal attitude of the kids, maybe ask them to not provoke them too much and risk unneeded injuries?

Well, I guess the proof just appeared near the end of the chapter... next chapter will probably be the rescue of the kids and imprisonment of that guard.

I think they wanted to have undeniable proof that the other kingdom is involved and not just the guy with the inferiority complex. The guards/knights will probably commence rescue and arrest operations now that the other kingdom's soldiers have appeared. And they can't trust the kids to not screw things up with a slip of the tongue.

Sooo, that means they are OK with letting those kids be in immediate danger...
Their lives aren't at risk, but they can still get beat up and left at the doorstep of death. They could even get mangled if the kidnappers decide that maybe they don't need two eyes, arms or something like that.

I personally wouldn't be inclined to piss off basically two living nukes.
Let's say that this experience makes those two realize that despite their value, the kingdom considers them completely disposable... and they decide to defect to another one, one that might actually treat them with respect.

I know it won't happen, because MANGA, but it probably should.
