The Soulless Duchess - Vol. 1 Ch. 34

I thought it'll be sweet time until last page, but its suddenly turnout bad.

Even if we go with the equivalence of korean money, those are some absurd numbers, truly an analogy of todays auctions that billionares take part in to obtain items of "great value" /s

@Seink I’m pretty sure it’s her, at least from what I’ve gathered from other similar stories the wives are in charge of the finances along with running the household.

From my viewpoint, spending vast fortunes on jewelry to gift to your loved one is not attractive behavior at all. It can only show the man is not careful with money and could drive family to bankruptcy. Her father is also big spender and look where that brought him.
Sure, it's fiction and money is infinite, but it still doesn't sit well with me.

Scumbag Dad strikes, or Mom sold it(the brooch) for capital in starting a new life when she ran away.

It's not *that* expensive actually.

I remind you that it's a Korean manhwa. The underlying currency, so the Korean readers can relate, is probably South Korea Won.

So, 40 Million Won is... $32000.

It sounds much more "reasonable" all of a sudden.

Edit: Ah, someone already pointed it out. My bad.

@BlazingMagpie It's a wish-fulfillment manga aimed at teenage girls.

@Kirin-kun It's whatever currency is in that world, doesn't have to be whatever you're thinking about. The cost can be seen relative to what the other aristocrats bid. The simple fact that he's outbidding everybody by a lot means that he's squandering the money in his coffers, which indirectly means that either his current subjects are paying for it, or their ancestors. But as mentioned - this is a manga with the main goal of the wish-fulfillment of teenage girls' "romance" fantasies.

@mitsuki48, @Kirin-kun

Your logic of it being equivalent to Won doesn't work out though, due to the MC's comment about the hotel.

The amount shown purchased was 160 mil: even if you consider off-panel buying (buying more than was shown) and double how much he spent, that would equate to less than $300k if it were Won equivalent. You're not going to be able to buy a large, famous hotel for even several times that.

Dude's spending the equivalent of millions of dollars here. Which is actually reasonable given how valuable some of the shown pieces would be irl.

Fuck his assets and finances he's going to give everything to his wife and nobody can stop him.not.even.the.old.hag.
And. that.brooch.is.up.next.*_*

Oh nice why is it there? I hope he buys that as well.

It’s probably that terrible father who sold it.
