The Soulless Duchess - Vol. 1 Ch. 4

The MC has a father and fiance that need a dose of humility rammed down their worthless throats. Vermin..

oh girl i feel so sorry for you, neglected by your mother, abused by your father, and what????? manipulated by this asshole?????????????????????? and even before you got used by a shithead sigh 😢

@Mathiason oh lol i can't found what i said since you edit your comment instead of making new one.

Of course the neglect i meant is exactly that. She leaved her.
And i don't know until i read later that before that day the mother actually kind enough to even make some sort of goodbye meeting.
I don't understand why my opinion is a problem. And make new comment if you reply. Isn't it weird to edit your past comment?? I even almost can't figure what i said. What's so hard with making new comment.
And had she wanted it she could have bring her along. Thus "neglect". Is what i'm saying. Dunno if she have another hidden reason but she don't as of this episode. And my comment is of that. Like my previous statement can't understand why my opinion based on the story is a problem.

Thanks for the chapter!
@gelas Wasn't saying it was a problem, just mistaken in comment about mother neglecting her. As for not bringing MC along don't know full story so mother might have tried and failed for some reason, vainly hoped MC wouldn't be abused and more likely to have daily necessities provided with father than on the run, or might have thought father wouldn't stop to get his only heir back if took MC with her. Or father might've beaten the mother to death who then covered it up with story of her running, or locked her away in an oubliette (possibly after catching her trying to pick up MC to run away with) with story to prevent people from looking for her. Hopefully will find out conditions and why mother did or didn't do things, but only know mother and MC loved each other and had a lot of fun watching fireworks at a town festival night before the mother supposedly ran away.

that cousin is a grade a b*
I get that the mom left from an abusive relationship and probably felt her daughter would have a better life staying as a noble... so I'd be okay if they reunited in the future to take the house/estate/title from these useless men.

If anyone out there blames the victim (female lead) for her constitution and being manipulated by the people around her, then you're a rotten individual yourself. Clearly she has been abused which reflects in her low self esteem and self worth. Which then leads her to yearn for love, affection and for those to see her for who she really is. If you don't comprehend that, or understand that then I don't know what to say. There is a cause and effect for everything.

However, if you do understand that and STILL blame the female lead for being manipulated, then you can sincerely go run yourself into a knife...10 times.

@Mathiason : as i sad. i only comment as my knowledge as of that chapter. as i said again. why is that a problem? i am mistaken about mother actually not neglecting? as l said, again. i know that after reading more chapters. but not at this one.
anyway i say again, it is my opinion. and it is based on what the story offer. if it is not a problem for you then why bother so much?? it made it look like it is indeed a problem for you.
if you insist that it is not then drop this. i don't want to reply for something as trivial as this even after, i have explained why i commented the way i did.

These kinds of stories always remind me of this one. Gotta give Scarlet a 10/10 for conflict resolution technique over there. A lot of these other MCs in this sort of situation probably wish they could handle it like that. Presumably cathartic as hell.

Holy fucking shit. This isn't just manipulation or using someone.

Between the Baron's thoughts and the family's actions, this is full-blown domestic abuse and gas-lighting. I'm reminded of the Duchess's 50 Tea Recipes, only this one justifies a crippled self-esteem even more.

Damn, no wonder she fell for the first man who didn't (immediately) treat her like crap. She's getting verbally abused by her father, and her cousin is making her feel like she's the one being unreasonable.

He sure is a wolf in a sheep's clothing. I wish she would use what she knew to blackmail this trash.

So what I'm getting is, bitterness from being passionately gay in a homophobic society turned her former love from being a complete asshole (which I assume comes naturally to him) into a complete monster.

...That's actually surprisingly believable.

Her father, less so. Well, men like him exist by the boatload, but he's a caricature here.

But the commentary on her cousin, alas... 100% accurate to life as-presented, distorted self-perception of "neutrality" and all. The placator who is happy so long as no one's loudly upset, who wants everyone to be "happy" but hasn't been able to distinguish between helping someone and getting them to be quiet; who participates in the normalization of abuse while thinking they are doing a great thing. Ugh. Painful to watch.

The story being what it is, I'm assuming he may or may not turn out being even nastier, of course, as the plot may require.

Ughhhhh, I know so many people that are like this family. It really messes with your head. I dislike how much I can relate to the MC.
