I think I once read a spoiler that said he was. And in the past timeline he had taken a liking to the heroine.
Idk if he was the demon king tho.

Apparently Claude turned back time to save Ivona using the demon king's power source. Worst part is he was tricked by the church into doing so; they wanted him to become the new demon king so they can maintain people's reliance on them.
