I wouldn't have found out myself if I didn't see the title of the bonus chapter in my feed but if a manga is on niconico, and you luck out, you can get it without the shitty resolution throttling most publishers rape their manga with. There are obvious drawbacks, but if aren't impatient or late to the party you can get your hands on some really nice raws.

Dude the raws you are using have the same high x width ratio as the higher resolution ones. I'm pretty sure all you'd have to do is upscale your files and duplicate the clean/redraw layers over the higher-res raws. How much extra work is that per page? 20 seconds maybe?

@6mai Nope, upscaling would mean the redrawn areas would be blurry, and it doesn't work well with tones, so that wouldn't work. We'd need to re-do all redraws.

Jokes asides, I, and I think I'm in the majority when I say this, would much rather have higher resolution pages with like 2-3 panels per chapter having blurry tones at places than tiny pages with crisp tones everywhere. Hell if I still needed people to translate mango for me I might actually consider donating to the good fellas that took the extra 10 minutes out of their day to make a chapter extra large.

@6mai Fair enough, but I personally wouldn't want to put out my work like that, and honestly, 1600px is by no means tiny, it definitely isn't ideal, but for a large amount of readers it works perfectly. There are also other issues such as the fact that those high res raws end at chapter 17, when there are multiple other chapters, so that'd mean we'd either have to switch back to 1600px raws, or wait on those raws on NicoNico when we reach that chapter (in the next few weeks, since we'll be releasing a few more chapters real soon). We could definitely consider re-doing past chapters in the future with those raws, but right now, it seems like sticking to our current raws, and not further slowing down the process would be the best idea. And thanks for the offer, but we're actually doing perfectly fine on donations right now, we have enough to buy all the magazines we need, so there's absolutely no need to feel pressured into donating, thanks for the thought though.

I know this is rambling at this but I have 4k monitor, so yeah, to me x1600 really does feel tiny in comparison to x2800.

And my two cents on the lag between mag and nico raws, honesty, you guys were always like 5 chapters behind anyway so why not just embrace the lag for the sake of better quality? In the long run, who the fuck cares if you finish the manga a month or two after it ends in japan. As they say, good things come to those who wait.
