The Strongest Wizard Becomes a Countryside Guardsman After Taking an Arrow to the Knee - Vol. 1 Ch. 1 - I Was the Strongest Sorcerer. And Then I Reti…

Hmm. The image the novel translator had, showed the arrow higher up, into the thigh which made me question it.
And the novel... almost mentioned the hero was male (or maybe I misread it). But here the entire party other than the mage looks female or androgynous at worst.

It bothers me he doesn't have a cane, yet he is a mage and has a good reason to have one.

The name of this manga makes me think the author didn't understand what the "took an arrow to the knee" means and instead just took it literally.

It seems like others are a bit bothered that he doesn't have a cane or staff to support him despite the bad knee.

edit: though if it's not too painful i guess you would just endure it due to canes being inconvenient, but shouldn't an unhealing wound hurt a crap ton?

@Zypex Just because it is in pain doesn't mean his muscles are weak in and around his knee, nor is the joint worn out. You don't use a cane to take the weight off your leg, that is what a crutch is for. Canes are for balance, to help unlock the joint and to prevent buckling of the joint. Of course there are people who use them for taking weight off their hip, knee and ankle, but a crutch is far safer and better. I've had my cane slip away from me on many everyday surfaces.

Sure he will need a cane at a younger age than without an injury, but w.e

"Hail, summoner. Conjure me up a warm bed, would you?"
"Destruction magic's fine, just don't go burning down any buildings."
"Don't suppose you'd enchant my sword? Dull old blade can barely cut butter."
"You're the one that casts those illusions. Impressive."
"Go cast your fancy magic someplace else."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Watch the magic!"
"So you can cast a few spells? Am I supposed to be impressed?"

Not every knee injury needs a cane or crutch. Some need a brace for their injury. There injuries that make it hard to stay on that leg for long periods of time and teh longer your standing walking etc, the more the pain increases to the point you have to sit or it locks up or becomes a sharp stabbing pain. I have a fam member that suffered a perm injury in their knee. They can walk without anything as long as in short burst, some days are better than others. Sometimes they cant walk around much and stairs are always painful. Though walking around in the woods for 3 hrs is a stretch with with such an injury.

so the demon king uses a bow, good to know. and in a desperate last move, shot homie in the knee. that's some evil shit right there

Well... considering that he was mostly resting on his bed in the early part and basically spent most of it complaining about the pain in the background... He's remarkably calm and unaffected by all the movement he's had to perform, like trekking for hours without any mention of rest, stooping inside a cave, kneeling, crouching... It's a little weird?

Edit: Especially page 13 where after a whole day on his feet he falls to the ground clutching his knee.

I'm worried about the state of basilisk population in isekai. If every retired S class will break in nests and kill innocent reptiles, what a world it will be - basiliskless?! We need an isekai Green Party!

damn they missed another joke when he rode the carriage...

Hey, you. You're finally awake.
You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us
