@Mogima exactly my thoughts. What if the messages and attacks are staged by him to make him more pitiful and gather support for himself? Doing so might help distract people from investigating him and seeing if he really is the grandson. It sounds rather convenient that the count found out about this grandson from a letter. Anyone who knew the circumstances and fits the right appearance can make the claim of being a relative, but who is able to verify it?

Also the wife of the dead son looks beautiful and intelligent. As much as I would like her to simply be a nice person, I wouldn't be surprised if she was either responsible for her husband's death (poison can look like illness) or she knew he was going to die soon and made this plot with Cedric to get the inheritance.

Well the at face value choice would be freckles, the obvious twisty sort of suspect is the widow and the less obvious twist would probably be him doing it to himself, at least only with this chapter. The other characters don't really have enough involvement with Cedric at the moment to really make any judgement calls.

This is a pretty fun manga. Marielle really is shrewd, she's fun. But she's also flawed, and not incapable of reflecting on herself! Liked seeing that this chapter, it humanized her a bit more.
