Let's not forget that the info she got about this game is all second hand from someone that just sort of miraculously stopped hating her. What if the wrong name was given on purpose, and this is someone else from the game? Maybe Aqua was supposed to be alone returning to see her and asked her to be his fiancé which then made her the rival not the heroine. Maybe it's actually the heroine's friend? The original protag might be trying to split them up still.
