Okay, everyone is discussing about the mother figure. It's clear she is abusive, narcissistic, destructive, and along many more things.

As for Lawrence? He's manipulative, views Tia as a tool for his dirty crimes, and doesn't want to lose her now that she knows to speak for herself. God, that same guy who cut off her limbs and tongue. Ugh.

Tia can indeed be scary, and one of the things I like the most about this story is that her brother and her share uncomfortable similarities. They understand one another very well because they both have the same cold, calculating, ruthless nature. They are both capable of looking at their own family as just cogs in a wider machine, to be exploited for their own purposes. Tia does have a conscience, at least, but it's easy to see why she became a villianess.
