She is much more than you think, start with mischief, even if she fail then she can just say sorry. The scope of how, who, when and the price is confirm from doing all those trick while have fun herself. In the novel, she even ask the maid to turn the hourglass without her knowing (leave the room) to check the activation condition.

In the novel, that hourglass was her power awaken given form when she got killed, wishing "to turn the hourglass". To all other, it just a normal hourglass, only to Aria, it act as her magic trigger. And it got explain much later that magic power from body is consume to perform magic, which is why she immediately got tired for next whole day. Even this testing/mischief phase show the weakness of the hourglass very soon so Aria can become aware of it, even led to prepare for failure situation

Well, it's not a bad idea to use the hourglass now to test it, so she know how long she can stay awake after using it.

Because if she use it when she's far from home, and then suddently fall asleep in the middle of nowhere, she will not live for a long time.
