In the novel it was explained that livestock have been stolen in the past.
They are trying to find them but since the ranch is so wide they don't have enough to cover the whole place.

Why did they let her go even though news like that exist? Don't ask me, its an isekai :)
Though I assume they frequently patrol around with knights and stuff.

The three modes for that rifle are safe, semi, and auto. Typical for your M-16/M-4 receiver and trigger group, while I've had access to a burst-fire variant. The panel was illustrated a bit dumbly, but if she was firing before, then hit the giggle switch, it went to auto, not semi, as it was already on semi.
