@Kabeidon_ I get where you're coming from but I'm not really sure how it applies here, since the thing she killed is basically some animal and this series never struck me as particularly serious. The MC totally thinks it is, but she's already got at least one foot in the same realm as that other reincarnated villainess MC who accidentally made herself a harem out of basically the entire male and female cast of the game she had played, and is too dense to notice she already broke every flag and planted entirely new ones.

Yeah she used slugs.
In the WN, it was mentioned that she loaded slug rounds. The first shot is also a slug round aimed at the torso but the charging gryphon's head got in the way,.

Also to make sure that it was dead, she fired two rounds at the head, until the brain spilled out.

actually , i think the motto "kenteki hissatsu" / 見 敵 必 殺 / See Enemies - Immediately Kill Them , has existed in the japanese army long before 2013 , at least since World War 2 , or maybe even older .

the page below is from the manga Esper Mami by Fujiko F Fujio . the old man is a veteran of World War 2 , he was hiding in a jungle for decades , when he comes out , he sees a girl with dyed red hair and he thinks she is an American , so he tries to kill her while yelling " 見 敵 必 殺 " , lol .

Actually I'm caught up on the no damage when shot in the face by a hunting round because it is something that can be calculated and used as a base to define how durable the gryphon is. I'm more into structuring the world than being amazed by the impossibilities in it =].
