The kind fairy points at some random kid in the forest yells to them for help when they shouldn’t even be able to see them... so she just wanted the griffin to forget about her and kill the kid, the chance of a kid magically pulling out guns and succeed in killing it are practically zero

Of course the first shot didn't work, and it has nothing to do with it being a magic beast.
Not only did she target the front of the upper skull, which is always the thickest part, but the marks it left behind clearly indicate that she didn't use a slug shell (most likely buckshot).
There are a ton of animals that would survive that, even in the real world (although most would be bleeding from that, at least).
