I suppose there is, but he uses modern methods with knowledge in the scientific aspect of it.. I'm pretty sure that the era they're in is still experimenting with the best combinations, techniques and maintaining the reputations of their products.. anyhow, this is a fictional world, if it's safe to assume that it's as vast as ours, then they may even be going on expeditions to foreign lands in search of better spices and ingredients.

It's just a matter of that they have yet to taste something as refined as his, maybe other nations have been getting better ones from the far east and trading it for the good flower stuff' for all we know

@Winchan looking at it more it’s really a matter if you used a tea kettle or not doing some google search convection naturally occur when using a tea kettle to make the tea so basically tea kettles does not exist in their world. Then it’s just a matter if they can figure out the brewing time needed which is probably 6 minutes.

Heck even a pot can do it convection is just heat transfer when water circulate cooler water molecule going up then hotter molecule going down and as time pass water will slowly lose its heat. Maybe that’s why people should let tea in first then pour the hot water in the tea pot(that will naturally circulate the tea leaves) let it sit for certain time and that it that’s basically what he did.
