As a man, I wouldn't want to walk around without underwear. People probably wouldn't notice as long as I still wear pants, but it would be incredibly uncomfortable to have my dick or balls constantly rub against the rough fabric of my jeans, get pinched in between the folds, or even get crushed under my ass when I sit.


Now, I can't really speak for the utility of bras, but I imagine women would have a similar need for underwear, that goes beyond fashion.

Bras hold up the breasts and protect them from rubbing against your shirt (nipples can be extra sensitive around your period and hurt if they do). For people with larger ones they are necessary to prevent them from moving alot and the keep them from sagging.

Fair 'nuff on the sensitive nipples and support... Though wouldn't sports-type bras be more likely in that case? I don't have any personal experience, but form what I've heard from female friends and family having a ill-fitting bra is quite uncomfortable, so foregoing cups altogether seems smarter than having cups for wide ranges of size.
Actually, it's kind of weird that men's underwear have the same styles as in our world. Given the sexualisation of male bodies, wouldn't bulge-shaping underwear be more prevalent?
... In fact, didn't we already see those in earlier chapters?

I don't buy it. Even if the gender roles were reversed, women would still need many different sizes of bras. They probably would all just be boring and functional as opposed to cute and frilly. Function over form. The reason why male underwear can be sold in bulk is because as long as you get the waistband correct, it fits. The whole purpose of a bra is to support those lumps of fat on a girl's chest which is why they are so varied. The wrong fit makes them not work at all.
