What's the chance that the brothers don't get along because each care about the other but never say it out loud?

The younger, more talented one leave because he want the older brother to become the head and avoid inheritance issue.
While the older one is self-conscious he's not the better candidate and want the younger one to lead, and resent him for 'running away' form the issue or that he got a 'hand me down' title.
